The Walk, Bike, Run Atlas Township Committee in collaboration with the Atlas Township Board, Genesee County Parks and the Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission has planned and constructed trails for the citizens of the township and Village of Goodrich. This trail system is connected in part with the Michigan Iron Belle Trail. The Recreational Path Millage has contributed to the funding for engineering and construction of these paths. Grant money has been obtained through the DNR Trust Fund and other sources of funding.
The community’s continued support for this initiative through millage renewal is greatly appreciated.

Meetings are open to the public and are held at 6:00pm on the first Tuesday of every other month, starting January each year.
Trails and greenways are often seen narrowly when it comes to their benefits. People tend to focus on the recreational or environmental aspects of trails and greenways, failing to see the big picture, the total package of benefits that a trail or greenway can provide to communities, including public health, economic and transportation benefits, and even the effect on community pride and identity.
When seen as a whole, the evidence about the far-reaching benefits of trails and greenways is compelling, especially given the minimal public investment involved compared to other undertakings with the same community goals. Trails and greenways create healthy recreation and transportation opportunities by providing people of all ages with attractive, safe, accessible and low- or no-cost places to cycle, walk, hike, jog or skate. Trails help people of all ages incorporate exercise into their daily routines by connecting them with places they want or need to go. Communities that encourage physical activity by making use of the linear corridors can see a significant effect on public health and wellness.
In Atlas Township, we are lucky to have a Genesee County Park directly across from the Hegel Road Trail and it’s easily accessed (with caution) by crossing Hegel Road into the Atlas County Park.
Just inside the park is a trail map of the several trails within the park. One of our committee members has forged those trails (with permission of the county park management) and a few of our members continue to clear those established trails of debris.
These trails are not paved. They are more of the rugged kind and you may want to wear a more supportive shoe or boot when traversing them.
Local residents can request free yard signs to show support for the development and maintenance of our recreational trails.
